University of Cincinnati Varsity Village
Heapy Engineering designed the Mechanical-Electrical systems and provided commissioning services for the new 236,000 SF Richard E. Lindner Athletic Center of eight levels (three below ground and five above) and a new baseball stadium. The new center provides centralized administrative and coaching offices for all intercollegiate sports, reception and meeting spaces for visitors, ticket office, locker facilities for all sports, a training sports medicine suite, new weight lifting facilities, and a new practice gymnasium for men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball.
Also included in the athletic center is a new faculty dining facility, the relocated student health center, a 330-seat auditorium, an Academic Services Center and a university and sports museum.
In addition to the baseball stadium and athletic center, Varsity Village includes a new 150-space, underground parking garage, a six-court tennis center atop the garage, renovations to the existing Shoemaker Center and renovations to the existing Armory Fieldhouse.
Renovations to the Armory included a new sports floor, an AstroHopper™ and AstroTurf™ removable sports turf system and new air handlers. The Baseball Stadium includes the seating bowl, the under-bowl area (dressing rooms, dugouts, showers) the press box, the canopy and restrooms.
This project is LEED® Certified. This project received certification under the LEED for New Construction rating system.
This project was completed in 2006 with a total construction cost of $70,000,000.
