SSHC 2019 Session Agenda

Agenda

SSHC 2019 Keynote Lunch

Mara Baum, AIA, EDAC, WELL, LEED Fellow, is HOK's sustainable design leader, health + wellness. A WELL Accredited Professional and WELL Faculty member.  She has 18 years of sustainability experience in architecture, urban planning, research, teaching and green building certification. Baum is an expert on the intersection of ecological considerations and the creation of healthy, healing environments.

Mara's keynote presentation will highlight the value of moving towards net zero energy in healthcare buildings and campuses, with a focus on shifting our ways of thinking around the real and perceived barriers. Collaboration equally among Owners, Architects and Engineers to provide the solutions forward for Net Zero buildings will be necessary.  Interest in energy efficiency continues to expand, particularly as a growing number of institutions across all parts of the US commit to carbon reductions as a means of improving population health.  Mara will share case studies and lessons learned from projects in the Midwest and beyond, where this collaboration has occurred.

SSHC 2019 Education Track AM

Track 1: Palliative Care-Advancing Quality and Improving Costs (Pending ACHE F2F CES, AIA LUs, GBCI CEs, PDHs)

Palliative care is among the least understood hospital service lines by patients as well as doctors, nurses and administrators. One main reason is that palliative care is designed to address the needs of the chronically ill not just the terminally ill. Palliative care aims to make patients comfortable through relief of pain and also help them with the acceptance of life’s natural processes. Healthcare delivery systems look to palliative care programs to help increase the quality of care provided while also driving down costs of care.

Track 2: Healthcare Systems Executives Discuss Current and Future Projects (Pending AIA LUs, GBCI CEs, PDH)

With considerable Hospital renovations, expansions, and replacements occurring or planned, Executives from 3 separate healthcare systems will discuss how their upcoming projects are addressing aging facilities, population growth, market demand, and the need to improve operational efficiencies.  They will provide perspective on the use of High-Performance Systems and Processes and their system’s requirements for Sustainability regarding these current and future projects.

SSHC 2019 Education Track PM
