Centre College Pearl Hall

Centre_College_Pearl_Hall_1Heapy Engineering provided LEED Program Management and Commissioning Services for Centre College’s newest residence hall.  Pearl Hall is a 54,200 SF facility with 3 floors.

Centre College adopted the popular "suite style" design for the student residence. In this living style, students have their own room, while sharing a bathroom and common area with suite mates. In addition, each suite has a "convenience kitchen," which consists of a Centre_College_Pearl_Hall_2sink, microwave, and refrigerator. Each floor houses a "community kitchen," consisting of major kitchen appliances including a sink, microwave, stove, oven, and refrigerator. Laundry facilities are provided on the lower level.

The suites have individual temperature controls, wireless Internet capabilities, and cable TV access.  Keyless entry is a security feature for residents to gain entrance into Pearl Hall. Residents each use a card that allows for access into the building, and then a traditional key to open their suite.

In this role, Heapy provided LEED Program Management Services guiding all of the Architectural, Engineering, Contractor and Owner project partners through the LEED Rating System process.  As a part of this process, the Project Team met in a collaborative approach (“Eco-Charrette”) to create a realistic and achievable design for the building project.  An “Eco-Charrette” employs building a consensus among the Project Team (designers, contractors, building users, owner, etc.) to focus on both the big picture as well as the details to arrive at an agreement on specific goals, strategies and project priorities relative to energy efficiency and sustainable design.

The project is LEED-NC Gold Certified.

The project was completed in 2009 with a total construction cost of $11.5 milion.
