City_of_Columbus_Old_Police_Station_1Heapy Engineering is providing Mechanical-Electrical Design, Commissioning, and LEED Program Management services for the renovation of the 97,800 SF and 27,300 SF addition to the Old Columbus Police Headquarters located at 120 Gay Street.

The newly renovated building will include offices, conference rooms, training center, finger printing, application center, STAT room, HR hearing room, work rooms and storage space. The addition will include a new atrium that will allow for more natural light to help reduce energy costs along with a juice bar and winter garden.

The existing building was constructed in 1929 and has 6 floors.  The existing building is primarily gutted of all Mechanical-Electrical systems with the exception of main electrical gear and a steam boiler plant that are located in the basement, and abandoned piping and ductwork throughout the building.  The project will include renovations to the mechanical room and the addition of a new chiller room.

The project is expected to be completed in 2010 with a total construction cost of $16 million.
